What is the difference between gold filled and gold plated?

Gold filled jewelry is created by a process called pressure-bonding which adheres solid gold sheets (5% gold by weight) on top of a brass core while the process of gold plating is where a minuscule layer of gold is applied over a base metal . Gold filled jewelry has a measurable amount of gold in it (5%) versus the amount of gold in gold plated is so tiny that its technically considered unmeasurable (less than .05%).

Will gold filled or sterling silver tarnish?

The technique for making gold-filled jewelry makes it very durable and allows for a longer life span for your pieces. It allows for jewelry that does not tarnish, peel, chip or discolor. If your gold filled jewelry has ever changed color at all its usually just because of dirt build up and can be cleaned with dish soap.

Sterling Silver has a natural tendency to tarnish very quickly when sitting in a drawer. One of the easiest ways to prevent tarnish is to simply wear your silver all the time as opposed to letting it sit in a jewelry box unworn.

*With any jewelry item it is VERY IMPORTANT to note your own PH levels will affect the conditions of the metal. This also means soaps, creams, perfumes will also affect the metal.

I have sensitive skin, is gold filled or sterling silver better for me?

Gold filled jewelry is generally safe for sensitive skin. It’s safe to wear your gold filled jewelry on the daily, and is hypoallergenic! Gold filled items are the next best thing to solid gold jewelry. It’s high quality and beautiful.

How do I take care of my permanent jewelry?

The best and easiest way to clean your permanent jewelry is using some dish soap, a soft bristle toothbrush, and water.

Though our piece are long lasting, we still do not recommend them coming in direct contact with lotions, oils, perfumes, and other chemicals.  This can dull your pieces and reduce their shine.  Clean your jewelry more frequently if you live a more active lifestyle.

As the summer approaches please be sure to clean your jewelry off immediately after using a chlorine pool. Especially if you are in the pool daily!

How long will my jewelry last?

Our jewelry is strongly welded and intended for everyday wear. How long you wear your permanent jewelry is up to you!

Treat your jewelry as you would any fine jewelry. Just because there is no clasp does not mean it cannot break when snagged, pulled, or banged and bumped around all the time.  We use dainty chains for safety reasons and they are meant to break if they are caught. Please be mindful of your dainty permanent jewelry!
